Defining the value of partnerships

In life, you are defined by what you accomplished against the odds, in business a brand’s success is not only down to great leadership – but it’s the value of partnerships with other companies.

Over the last few years, the Onyx Squash Academy has been very fortunate to have received the best advice and support from a number of highly experienced professionals in the field of finance and business development, from which we have been able to establish a network of partners based in Kent, London and now the West Midlands.

As a non-for-profit sports initiative, we have links with other social enterprises whose brand values match our vision and in return, we have made one of their senior directors a member of our advisory board and panel:

  • Advice4Renters – a specialist housing advocacy firm in Kilburn, North West London with a mission to ensure tenants live in decent, secure, and affordable private rented homes with access to rights and justice for all regardless of income.
  • Feel Good Cooperative – located in Kent, the company is made up of a group of like-minded individuals, who volunteer their holistic therapy services to promote health and wellbeing in the local community of Thamesmead, South East London.

Alongside these social enterprise brands, we have welcomed two new commercial partners, from the finance world, Synergy Exchange; who are based in the heart of the financial district in the City of London. Mr. Terry Chamberlain, one of the co-founders/Commercial Director of the company is an old friend of the founder, Jermaine Ranger; and is one of our financial advisory board members.

FACT: Both Terry and Jermaine used to operate a weekend car washing business as kids – hence it was only a matter of time that the two still collaborate as adults.

We are very honoured to have Sprintz Leisure Ltd, owner of Sprintz Health & Fitness Club, as our first UK partner and our strategic health club partner in delivering community cohesion through squash.

As for our team, we recently recruited Natasha Mooruth, a female educator from Coventry, who is an alumnus of the same university as our founding director. She will serve as our non-executive Director.

With a strong background in further education, Miss Mooruth has worked as a Travel & Tourism Lecturer at Lewisham College & Southwark College and Coventry University College, aligned with the commercial experience of working for Marks & Spencer and Hilton Hotels.

FACT: Natasha and Jermaine were based at the same campus of the University of Wolverhampton from 2000-2002.

Why do we partner with certain brands?

Well, a famous quote by Elliott Bisnow sums up why we choose to partner with different companies:

There is no greater feeling in business than building a product which impacts people’s lives in a profound way. When we look around at the thousands of people who have attended Summit gatherings, it makes us smile to see the new friendships, business partnerships, and philanthropic initiatives that each event produces.

This may sound like a motivational quote for an event product-based organisation, but as a service organisation, it applies to our company philosophy.

Our future

Looking at the state of the economy and the uncertainty about BREXIT, we strongly believe that it is crucial that a number of partnerships as it is vital to business growth and future development, even if there are two different business models.

For 2017 and beyond, we will work with our partners in delivering our mission, and in return, we will help them grow their brands through joint initiatives.
